About us

Our Story

In 1984, with the support of FAS Community Services and following extensive consultation with local stakeholders (North Western Health Board, Garda, Department of Social Welfare, local schools), Sligo Young Enterprises, a voluntary board of management, established a 20 place training centre at Ballast Quay.

This Centre, now known as Sligo Community Training Centre, has gone from strength to strength and now occupies a custom-designed facility located in the scenic area of Cleveragh on the outskirts of Sligo town. Over the years, activities and courses have developed and expanded reflecting the changing needs of our learners and the labour market.

Currently the courses on offer include computers, catering, hairdressing, sports and recreation and linked work experience.

In 2017, the Board was approached by the MSLETB and other local stakeholders to open a Centre in County Leitrim. Leitrim Community Training Centre, situated in the heart of Carrick-on-Shannon was officially opened in May 2018. Courses on offer there include catering, hairdressing and linked work experience.

Both Centres are funded and supported by Mayo Sligo Leitrim Education and Training Board and governed by a voluntary board of management.
